Let's now define the purposeful objective of this latest innovative roasting machine! Today, people's level of expectation differs compared to the traditional sample roaster (barrel style). People WANT to create a PROFILE using a small sample batch and then transfer that profile (times, temperatures and airflows) to a larger batch. This is a current terminology disconnect as that piece of equipment did not exist yet today...until now! Diedrich Manufacturing has introduce the new IR-1 Profile Laboratory Roaster (1 kilo). Roast from 300 grams - 1 kilo! In order to create a small batch PROFILE you must then take into consideration all the same variables; 3 types of heat, airflow velocities, and then of course fill/volume ratios. One must be able to scale proportionately to the proper larger sized roaster. This did not exist nor did it ever exist in the traditional barrel style sample roasters. If you merely want to turn coffee brown you can do that in a traditional barrel style sample roaster but it will not give you controllability or repeatability, let alone a PROFILE. The traditional sample roaster (barrel style) was originally only designed for green bean importers and farmers to quickly evaluate the bean quality of the crop NOT to create a roast profile. The IR-1 is NOT a production roaster. If you are seeking a small capacity production roaster, we recommend the IR-2.5 as the smallest roaster to do so.

Most people who utilize the IR-1 vent out a window. Venting recommended is "the Armadillo" from Federal Hose - For Spec Sheet go to - http://www.federalhose.com/product_pdf/ACFCA08.pdf

"Armadillo" Hose Federal Hose “Armadillo” Hose uses a new high-wall design to create the perfect dual-purpose hose for both armor and blow-out protection. A high-strength, low-cost hose alternative.

"Armadillo" Hose provides a very reliable armor for hose and tubing assemblies when it is desired to protect these from crushing, abrasion, chemical contact, over-bending and other abuse whether they are stationary or in motion. Formed of 300 series stainless steel, the four wall interlocked construction combines strength with extreme flexibility. Available in diameters ranging from 1 to 5 inch and standard lengths of 25 and 50 feet.
